Nicolas Godin – What Makes Me Think About You

Après un Contrepoint en l’honneur de Jean-Sébastien Bach un peu difficile d’accès en 2015, Nicolas Godin, moitié du duo Air, sort un disque autour de l’architecture. Sur le papier, ça ne semble pas très funky, mais dans les faits, le Français, qui se dit “plus impressionné par Ennio Morricone et John Barry que par les rock stars”, vient de sortir son disque le plus pop et le plus soulful. A l’origine de l’histoire, Godin se fait embarquer dans une virée avec le sculpteur Xavier Veilhan, avec qui il avait collaboré dans son fameux Studio Venezia lors de la Biennale de Venise en 2017, pour visiter quelques-unes des plus belles maisons d’architectes, dont John Lautner, Pierre Koenig ou Constantin Melnikov.

Assisté de Pierre Rousseau du duo Paradis, chargé de mettre de l’ordre dans ses pensées, et de ses fidèles synthés vintage (Prophet 5, Jupiter 8, Arp 2600), Godin a fini par composer un morceau pour chaque maison. Le résultat est particulièrement solaire, avec des morceaux qui vont remplir les playlists chill comme Foundation feat. Cola Boyy, Catch Yourself Falling avec Alexis Taylor de Hot Chip, ou We Forgot Love, rythmé par le délicieux son du Memory Moog et la voix soul de Kadhja Bonet. Pour la sienne, Godin utilise le vocodeur (celui de Kraftwerk) sur What Makes Me Think of You, avant de finir sur un hommage à Le Corbusier avec Cité radieuse, sur lequel il emboîte des phrases musicales et conclut sur “une grande plage sonore libératrice”, à l’image du toit-terrasse cher à l’architecte. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
