Deux ans après son hommage au défunt parc d’attractions parisien Mirapolis, qui confortait sa place dans cette catégorie de producteurs électroniques capables de remplir des salles de concert classiques, Erwan Castex – qui jouait dans les petits clubs parisiens il n’y a pas si longtemps – toque désormais à la porte de la “grande” culture française avec cet album réalisé en collaboration avec le Ballet national de Marseille, à la tête duquel on retrouve depuis septembre 2019 l’iconoclaste collectif de danseurs parisiens contestataires et multimédias (La)Horde. Ces deux infiltrés de l’underground dans le grand bain institutionnel ont monté un spectacle qui s’est joué début mars au théâtre du Châtelet et dont ce disque constitue la bande-son.

Loin d’être une simple BO, Room With a View ressemble plus à un album-concept, centré sur l’urgence écologique et humaine, avec l’intervention sur Nouveau Monde de son ami l’écrivain de SF Alain Damasio et de l’astrophysicien Aurélien Barrau. “J’ouvre une discussion sans vouloir donner de leçon. Je trouve que l’on ne peut pas passer à côté de ce sujet-là”, explique Rone, qui multiplie les chefs-d’œuvre sur cet album, avec notamment ces deux titres sans beat Sophora Japonica et Room with a View. Jusqu’au final Solastalgia, qui sample les “ha ho” de la troupe, preuve de la dimension collaborative de l’album, Rone déroule ses mélodies hypnotiques : Esperanza, qui fait inévitablement penser au classique Time des Pachanga Boys, ou Raverie, avec ce kick techno étouffé qui nous envoie dans un tunnel de bruits industriels, avec, comme toujours avec Rone, la lumière au bout. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz

Two years after his homage to the late Parisian amusement park Mirapolis, which consolidated its place in this category of electronic producers capable of filling classic concert halls, Erwan Castex – who played in small Parisian clubs there is not so for a long time – now knocking on the door of “great” French culture with this album produced in collaboration with the National Ballet of Marseille, at the head of which since September 2019 we find the collective iconoclast of protest and multimedia Parisian dancers (La) Horde . These two infiltrators from the underground in the large institutional bath put on a show which was performed at the beginning of March at the Théâtre du Châtelet and for which this record constitutes the soundtrack.

Far from being a simple soundtrack, Room With a View looks more like a concept album, centered on ecological and human urgency, with the intervention on Nouveau Monde of his friend the SF writer Alain Damasio and the astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau. “I open a discussion without wanting to teach a lesson. I find that we can not miss this subject, “explains Rone, who multiplies the masterpieces on this album, with in particular these two tracks without beat Sophora Japonica and Room with a View. Until the final Solastalgia, which samples the “ha ho” of the troupe, proof of the collaborative dimension of the album, Rone unfolds his hypnotic melodies: Esperanza, which inevitably brings to mind the classic Time of the Pachanga Boys, or Raverie, with this muffled techno kick that sends us into a tunnel of industrial noise, with, as always with Rone, the light at the end. © Smaël Bouaici / Qobuz
