After a first volume in 2019, Air half JB Dunckel and Jonathan Fitoussi reiterated their collaboration with Mirages II. Recorded at Studio Atlas in Paris, still in the company of drummer Louis Delorme, this second leg of the Mirages project navigates between ambient and electro oniric, operating the perfect synthesis of these two creative personalities. From this alchemy flows the fluidity of the musical storytelling, conferring on the album a strong evocative power. Aided by repeated, overlapping then metamorphosing synth tracks, the album conveys us through nine tracks to fumble memories, dreams and chimeras. Open up then a world of suspended time and infinite diaper shades.

From the first piece, Iris, the elegance of minimalism imposes a refined and resolutely contemporary aesthetic (there are nonetheless discernible the influences of great early German musicians of the genre) where technical rigor melts into acoustic poetry. From a sinuous journey to granular and crystalline textures on Sparks, we embark on a procession while appeasing on Atlantica. Finding their place alongside the synths are many acoustic instruments: the drums on most pieces, here a marimba that dialogues with a synth counterpart, there a piano or guitar that lend these electronic landscapes an organic matter. The attention to detail and stamp marriage transforms each listen into a renewed personal experience making Mirages II a screen where two artistic sensibilities are served by a certain technical virtuosity.
